The Vikings baseball team earned its fifth win of the season when it downed Princeton 9-6 last Friday. The win was preceded by an 8-1 win against St. Michael-Albertville May 11. The team started this week with a 5-3 loss to Milaca Monday.
In the Princeton game, the Tigers opened scoring with 1 run in the second, but it was answered by 3 North Branch runs.
Princeton narrowed the lead to 3-2 with a run in the third, but the Vikes opened it up with 5 more in the inning. The runs came on singles from sophomore Marty Savage, senior Patrick Ryan, sophomores Matt Warren, and Dominic Stahley and junior Eddie Meier and a triple from senior designated hitter Joe Ranger.
The Tigers added 1 run in the fifth, 2 in the sixth and 1 in the seventh. North Branch came up with 1 more in the sixth for the 9-6 win.
Senior Jake Anderson earned the win, striking out 5. Senior Nick Aaland recorded the save, coming in for relief in the seventh inning.
Ryan was 3 for 3 in the game and had 3 stolen bases. Stahley was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Ranger had a triple and 1 RBI.
In the STMA win, Warren earned his first win, giving up 5 hits and was also 2 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI.
Senior Matt Fletcher was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and sophomore Dan Gray was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. The Vikings tallied 9 hits in the win.
Anderson took the loss Monday against Milaca, pitching a complete game and allowing only 5 hits. Warren went 2 for 4 for the Vikes, while Stahley picked up the teamís only other hit.
This week, the team faced Foley Tuesday and takes on Chisago Lakes Thursday and Pine City Friday.
The Chisago game will be a 7 p.m. start. The Pine City game was rescheduled from May 17 because of the make-up game with Milaca that day.
The squad returns home Tuesday, May 25 to host Centennial and rounds out the regular season May 27 against St. Francis.
