The Rush City baseball squad picked up a Great River Conference win over Hinckley-Finlayson last week but also added one to the loss column in a tough battle against Braham.
The Tigers defeated the Jaguars 8-5 May 11, striking early with 2 runs in the first inning on singles from John Bosman and Dan Gamache.
They added 5 in the second on a doubles from Brent Freeman and Adam Best. The Jags had 1 run in the first and 2 in the second. They added lone runs in the fourth and seventh, while Rush City increased its lead with 1 run in the fifth for the win.
Best earned the win, pitching 3 and two-thirds innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 4.
Kellin Sybrant, Bosman and Best led the offense with 2 hits apiece.
Rush City took an early 3-0 lead but couldnít hang on for a tough 4-3 loss to Braham May 13.
Hits from Sybrant and Freeman scored 2 Tiger runs in the first. Sybrant doubled and later scored in the third for the 3-0 Rush City lead.
Braham scored 1 run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and won the game with a run in the seventh.
Sybrant had 3 hits in the game and Freeman added 2 hits. Best pitched in the loss, allowing 8 hits and striking out 4.
The Tigers are now 6-5 in the conference, 8-5 overall. This week, the squad takes on Isle Thursday and Minnesota Business Academy Friday in two home games. They end the regular season Monday, May 24 against Pine City on the road.
