The North Branch softball team ended the regular season with a 12-2 loss in five innings to Chisago Lakes May 20.
The Wildcats held the Vikings in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning on 1 hit and 2 Vikings errors.
In the top of the third, Kassy Hoppe singled for the Vikes and Dottie Graff hit a sacrifice to advance Hoppe. Anna Johnson reached on an error and Megan Ranger singled to score Hoppe.
Johnson then scored on Shannon OíHernís hard ground ball that was misplayed by the Wildcats to tie the score at 2-2.
Katie Paulson singled in the fourth and advanced to third but was unable to score for North Branch.
Chisago put the game out of reach with 10 runs in two innings of play, including 9 in the fourth coming on 4 hits, 3 walks and 3 errors.
OíHern started as pitcher for the Vikes, allowing 4 hits and 6 runs while striking out 2 in three innings. Maggie Johnson finished the game, giving up 6 runs on 4 hits.
ìWe just canít seem to hold it together long enough to post a win,î Head Coach Larry Brodin said. ìWe seem to break down and then the problems just multiply. We have to do something quick with sections starting this week.î
North Branch is paired against the No. 1 seed Cambridge-Isanti team in the first round of playoffs Thursday, May 27.
