Rush Cityís airport is one step closer to having a parallel taxiway installed adjacent to the current runway.
The airport has become so busy recently that city council and airport authorities believe it would be beneficial to build the taxiway.
Total project costs have not yet been set, but the council Monday night agreed to a survey of the land and a delineation of wetlands for a total of $14,680.
Currently, the project is being funded only 30 percent by local taxpayers. The remaining costs are being covered by the state at 70 percent.
Should the project become federal and involve the Federal Aviation Administration, it could be funded 95 percent by federal money and five percent locally.
Before the project can move forward in the FAAís process the city and airport must submit a clear plan including a land use plan.
Also at the meeting, the city agreed to contract with Don Baker Architects for the senior housing project planned for the city.
The 24-unit senior apartment and assisted living center, as well as a community center and dining room, still do not have a home in the city. A location has yet to be selected. Don Baker Architects will assist in that process.
The group is being used by the Chisago County Housing Redevelopment Authority and in order for the city to retain the $500,000 grant recently awarded it must also contract with Don Baker Architects.
The group will complete a land use plan for up to $3,000; and see the project through by doing construction administration, cost to be determined based on the total cost of the project.
The council also:
ï heard from Steve Pouti, the deputy now in charge of patrolling the Rush City area. He has been with the department five years and took over the Rush City area from Deputy Brandon Thyen who transferred to a job at the jail. Pouti (pronounced Poetee) told the council that he looks forward to working in Rush City again, where he spent the first six months of his career; and
ï agreed to mill, patch and overlay most of West 10th St. The area is full of potholes and water does not drain properly.
