There will be a new face behind the name plate of the Rush City Schools superintendent at the board table come July 1.

The school board gave final approval to a contract with Dr. James Redfield last Thursday. Redfield is currently at Lester Prairie. Redfield comes on board with a salary of $98,500 for 2004-05, $101,000 for 2005-06 and $104,000 for 2006-07.

Some conditions of the contract include a credit of 15 days vacation at the start of service, and earned at one day per month in year one, 15 days in year two and 20 days in year three. The superintendent is entitled to 10 paid holidays each contract year.

Sick leave is given as follows: 30 days credited at start of service and after that earned at the rate of 1.25 days for each working month, to a maximum accumulated of 100 days. The superintendent is allowed up to five days emergency leave per occurrence during the contract year.

The district provides health and hospitalization for both the superintendent and his spouse at the full expense of the school district, if the superintendent chooses.

The superintendent can participate in a tax sheltered annuity plan through payroll deduction with the board of education contributing $166.67 per month or $2,000 per year.

The district pays all valid expenses for the superintendentís attendance at professional conferences and meetings with other educational agencies, plus one national convention each school year. The superintendent must provide an itemized expense statement for such.

Also, the Rush City School District will pay up to $5,000 toward the cost of moving the superintendent and his family to Rush City.

ï accepted the resignation of Dianna Sigety, transportation and Cory Schlagel, secondary social studies.

ï hired Eric Telander as secondary science teacher;

ï laid off Barbara Balvez and Sadie Johnson, both paraprofessionals. Superintendent Tim Eklund noted that some special needs students are leaving the district and less time is needed by paraprofessionals. The lay off was done by seniority list, last hire, first laid off;

ï made several re-assignments for sports coaching positions including assistant football - Greg Hills (for Kevin Jensen) and Stuart Lang (Jeremy Albright); 7th-grade football - Jeremy Albright (for Wayne Peshia); varsity volleyball - Michelle Kirby/Eric Telander (M. Kirby); J.V. volleyball - Rick Kosloski (Scott Arcand); ìCî volleyball - C. Crippen (1 year) (Rick Kosloski); assistant boys basketball - Lee Rood (Dave Bungert); ìCî boys basketball - Jeremy Albright (Lee Rood); assistant girls basketball - Joe Nelson (Cory Schlagel); cheerleading - Sara Dahl (Tami Honl); and

ï learned that unfilled positions in the district include a math teacher and secondary social studies teacher and three coaching positions: junior high boys basketball, varsity wrestling and junior high gymnastics.
