Evelyn M. Anderson died at the Green Acres Nursing Home on April 27, 2004 at the age of 90.
Evelyn was born on Sept. 7, 1913 in Amador Township on the Old Nelson Farm Homestead along the St. Croix River. Evelyn was the daughter of Conrad and Mary (Johnson) Nelson.
She married Clayton E. Anderson of North Branch on June 4, 1933. They lived in
Sunrise running a general merchantile store until 1937. They then purchased the Fairway Foods Market including a Locker plant in North Branch. They ran this business together until 1947. These were particularly trying years for Evelyn. Clayton was in the Navy, she had a young family to care and provide for and the business to run. She was indeed gifted with many skills and talents.
Evelyn and Clayton had 3 children, Jerry, Quentin and Clennan. They also opened their home to cousin Violet Collins two daughters Rosemary and Roberta.
Evelyn was an active community leader in the American Red Cross, American Legion Auxiliary, Masonic Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America, and Cub Scouts of America and served on numerous committees for the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed community and family social events especially playing games, mostly notably cards. She taught all of her children and grandchildren how to play. She was a tough competitor.
Through the years her three boys married and started families of their own. Evelynís greatest joy was being with her family; three daughters-in-laws Pat, Mary and Judy, plus nine grandchildren Jeff, Brent, Patrick, Mark, Eric, Mikael, Anne Marie, Matthew, Ross and 11 great-grandchildren Emily, Matthew, Eli, Miles, Kate, Evelyn, Grace, David, Noe, Kaina, and Stephen. She was a care giver and mother to all.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Mary, brother Russell and sister Fern.
Funeral services were held May 1, at 10 a.m. at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, North Branch, Minn. with Rev. Tim Bjorge officiating. Final interment was at the Oak Hill Cemetery in North Branch, Minn. The nine grandchildren served as casketbearers.
Evelyn was a loving wife, and mother to all. She leaves a legacy of family and love. Memorials preferred to the Green Acres Nursing Home Building Fund.
