Did you know that organized home care began in the late 1800s? This was a time when the most seriously ill were sick at home and when home was the workplace for most nurses. It was a time dominated by infectious diseases and high death rates and the arrival of the trained nurse eased the familyís burden of caring for the sick at home.
Easing the familyís burden of taking care of their loved ones at home is one of the things that home health care still provides. More than four million Americans receive home-delivered health care daily from nearly one million caregivers.
Home health services have grown far beyond basic professional nursing and home care services. Todayís home care agency offers nursing, home health aide, in-home therapy services, and home medical supplies just to name some.
Chisago County Public Health Department joins the national and local associations for Home Care and Hospice in celebrating November as National Home Care Month.
Chisago County Public Health Department has been providing home health services to adults with acute and chronic illnesses for over 40 years. They are a Medicare Certified Agency who offers nursing, home health aide, homemaker, and therapy services. There are a variety of funding sources to help pay for care. Referrals for home care can come from you, your family, or your doctor.
One of the most important aspects of accessing home health services is to plan for those services as much as possible and get hooked up with them before that crisis occurs. You can do that by requesting a long term care consultation, a free service, available to any person who requests one. A nurse and social worker will come out and meet with you to determine what resources and services will help you function at your optimal level as well as programs that may help pay for those services.
Chisago County Public Health Department applauds all home health care workers in their tireless effort to help people stay in their homes.
