Five residents of Rush Cityís Brookside Parkway gathered at Monday nightís city council meeting to express concern regarding the lack of a real street in their neighborhood.
Paula Hofstetter, one of the residents, said she was told when she bought her house on Brookside that the city would install a complete road.
ìAs of now there is no street,î she said.
City Administrator Daniel Hoffman said the city has little control over when the street is installed. ìWe donít own the road until it is done,î he said, adding that he did expect the contractor to have the road completed by now.
The contractor, Bauerly Companies, and a financier, GCI, were in a dispute, Hoffman said.
Councilman Mick Louzek empathized with the residents, saying he personally would like to see the road finished.
Hoffman said that he has been in contact with GCI and Bauerly on numerous occasions but that the city has no legal say in when the road can be installed.
In other news, Rush City Schools activities director Bob Schlagel and Aquatic Center manager Lee Rood met with the council to discuss the financial situation of the Aquatic Center.
This summer the Center lost 28 days of operating time to bad weather, Rood said.
Schlagel said that because of those lost days there was about a 9,000 person difference in attendance this year compared to last year. There were 11,000 people this year, but last year it was closer to 20,000.
The result of this drop in attendance is also a drop in revenue. Another problem the Center had was a major repair that took place. A water line break just before the pool opened cost about $14,200 to repair.
To help offset the cost of repairs, Schlagel said his plan is to seek the assistance of various organizations in the community.
