Gust Deloyd Calander, age 85, of North Branch, Minn. died on Oct. 6, 2004 at the Green Acres Country Care in North Branch.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 11, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Weber with Rev. Kevin Zellers officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
Gust was born on March 19, 1918 to Gust and Ella (Norberg) Calander in Isanti County. Gust served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during WWII. Upon his discharge Gust married Arlene Pohl at the church parsonage of St. Johnís Lutheran on Aug. 12, 1944. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before Arlene passed away in 1995.
Gust worked for Petersonís Mill in North Branch driving truck before his retirement. The retirement years were spent working the ìHobby Farmî raising, beef, pigs, and chickens, along with a very large gardens.
Gust was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, two sons Paul and Mark and grandson Frank Harvey Jr., four brothers Delmore, Delton, Dennis, and Denford Calander, three sisters Doris (Mrs. Tarnard Olson), Delma (Mrs. Reynold Olson), and Dorothy (Mrs. Clarence Johnson).
Gust is survived by two sons Calvin (Sunny) and wife Debbie, LeRoy and wife Kaye; six daughters Norma Nelson and husband John, Becki Kruse and husband Steve, Winnie Steenerson, Laurie Larson, Ginger Harvey and Deb Calander and husband Mike Leist; one brother Donald; three sisters-in-law Loretta (Donald) Calander, Ethel and Loyda Calander; 27 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Dad lived his entire life in the North Branch area. the most important part of his life was his love for his family and his family heritage. In the last years, he enjoyed very much living at Green Acres. He knew many people from the community and the staff were very, very good to him.
