The small east central community of North Branch was in shock late this week as it learned of the death of one of its residents, John Pinsonneault, former mayor of the Chisago County community.
Pinsonneault, 39, was among three Americans killed by suicide bombers in Baghdad, Iraq on Thursday. The three worked for DynCorp. One DynCorp employee is still missing and two others were wounded. Three State Department workers suffered injuries and at least six Iraqis apparently died in the bombing.
The bombing occurred in a cafe at a bazaar close to the U.S. Embassy annex. It was reported that witnesses saw the two bombers carrying backpacks and spending time in the cafe.
Pinsonneault began work for the private U.S. security firm DynCorp in May. He served eight years in the Marines and eight years in the Reserves.
He is survived by wife Lorie, his daughter, 19, and by wife Lorie's three children ages 18-22.
Pinsonneault served as mayor of North Branch from 1999-2000. He then resigned his job to take a job outside of the area.
