Rush City cross country runners go into Thursdayís sectional meet at Cloquet with high hopes following a strong season finish at Proctor on Oct. 19.
The girls varsity team finished 2nd out of six class A teams and the boys placed 6th out of 10.
The girls were led by senior Christine Frandsen, who finished 7th with a time of 16:14. Becky Kemen finished 16th at 17:28 while Kasey Fleming and Laura Hestbeck finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Amber Hoffman and Michelle Stenger came in 21st and 22nd.
Josh Dahl and Jared Dahlberg continued to turn in outstanding performances. Dahl placed 5th with a time of 17:31 and Dahlberg came in 21st at 18:04.
ėThe boys ran a great race. Josh and Jared are getting better each race. The times and places today are just fantastic,î said Coach Kevin Smith. ėThey are really leading the other boys with their efforts. Our other kids are also running very well. These boys have improved more this season that any other team I have coached in 28 years.î
Smith said he hopes the team will be in the top 5 at the sectional meet on Thursday.
The top 10 individual runners and the top 2 teams advance to the state meet, which will be held Nov. 6.
Last year Frandsen earned a spot at the state meet and finished 78th. This year she hopes to make it to state again.
The sectional meet will be held at 1 p.m. at the Cloquet Country Club.
