The North Branch Vikings turned in their second consecutive dominating performance on Oct. 20, skunking conference opponent Big Lake 39-0. Last week the Vikes trounced Chisago Lakes 35-13.
Scoring began midway through the 1st quarter, when junior Adam Gades burst through the right side on an 18 yard run. The extra point failed. The Vikes went up 12-0 with 2:01 left on a 24 yard pass from Matt Warren to senior Tony Watters.
Gades struck twice in the 2nd quarter on TD runs of 10 yards each, giving North Branch a 26-0 lead at halftime.
Second half scoring came on a 6 yard run up the middle by senior Korey Hutchings and a 9 yard run by Warren.
Gades finished the game with 179 rushing yards while Hutchings racked up 102.
The Vikings defense was impressive in holding Hornets quarterback Ryan Stolp to 41 yards. Stolp is ranked among the top 15 quarterbacks in the state.
Results of the Vikings Oct. 26 sectional matchup against Andover were unavailable as this issue went to press.
