North Branch Volleyball
The North Branch Vikings will take on Forest Lake tonight at 7 p.m. at North Branch High School in a sectional playoff game.
North Branch is seeded #4 with a record of 6-3 in the conference and 11-15 overall. Forest Lake is the #5 seed.
The Vikings ended their regular season with a 3-0 win over conference opponent Princeton on Oct. 19 and a3-0 loss to Hibbing on Oct. 20. Hibbing is the 4th ranked team in the state.
Senior middle hitter Jenny Anderson ended her Rum River Conference career in dominant fashion, finishing the Princeton match with 20 kills and 10 blocks.
ěJenny simply could not be stopped tonight. She was jumping so high and hitting right over the block. It seemed like every time she touched the ball our team would score. You could see in her face how much fun she was having, and the team really fed off that,î said Coach Jim VanEerden.
As a team, the Vikings committed only four hitting errors.
Even though the long road trip to Hibbing did not net the same results, the Vikings felt good about their effort. VanEerden said his team played as well as it has all year, with an impressive defensive effort led by Kelsey Vichorek.
In all three games the Vikings led until about midway, when Hibbing would go on a run to close down the games.
