Entering the practice of medicine fulfills a lifelong dream for Dr. Mani Mokalla, the newest pediatrician on staff at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming.Ý
Dr. Mokalla graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif. He currently sees children of all ages in the family practice clinic at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming. There he works closely with fellow pediatrician Rebecca Jones, M.D., and with the more than a dozen physicians on the Fairview Family Practice Clinic staff.
Dr. Mokalla graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Macalester College where he earned the outstanding pre-medical student award.ÝBorn in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Mokalla lived in the Middle East and Europe before coming to the United States at age 11. As a young child, he lived for a time in Iran where he witnessed the devastating effects of war on children and saw the work of a physician as something important. At age five he told a physician that he would become ìDr. Maniî someday.Ý
ìA competent pediatrician has the skill and the grace to care for children that manifest normal development as well as those who suffer from chronic disease,î said Dr. Mokalla. ìIn addition to knowledge of critical illness, the pediatrician must have the clinical knowledge to appreciate the breadth and spectrum of normal development and to guide parents along this path. Parents want to feel they are being heard.î
ìItís one thing to recognize the rose that has wilted,î said Dr. Mokalla. ìThe art of pediatrics is the ability to recognize a rose thatís about to wilt.î
Dr. Mokallaís special areas of interest in the care of children include: congenital cardiac disease, pulmonary care, including cystic fibrosis, childhood obesity and asthma.
He and his wife, Kerry, have one son Aidan, 15 months.
