North Branch 7th grader Haley Hasleiet continued to outpace her cross country competition last week with first place finishes at both the Swain Invitational in Duluth Oct. 2 and Chisago Lakes Invitational Sept. 29.
Hasleiet has finished first in 6 of her 7 races this season. The only race where she did not place first was the Milaca Megameet Sept. 25, where she placed 2nd.
The Chisago Lakes meet saw several other outstanding individual finishes.
Clemens Kraus, an exchange student from Stuttgart, Germany, placed 1st in the JV boys 5000 meters, followed by teammates Ben Meemken 3rd, Chad Schrandt 4th, Ben Prager 7th and Brandon Springer 16th.
In the girls JV 4000 meters, Maggie Kriz placed 1st, Kelsey Lloyd 3rd and Katie Bowen 5th.
The 7th grade girls 2040 meters saw a 1st place finish by Miranda Charley, followed by Elizabeth Walters at 2nd, Alyssa Selvog 6th, Onalee Yousey, 11th and Samantha Zuelke 12th.
Nick Ramberg and J.J. Koerber placed 2nd and 3rd in the varsity boys 5000 meters, with Nick Sausen 9th and Brandon Nagle, Cody Good, Mitch Pohlkamp and Aaron Cedergren finishing 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.
The entire Viking harrier contingent made a strong showing at the Swain meet in both the team and individual competitions.
First place team finishes went to the 7th and 8th grade boys (13 teams competing), sophomore girls (10 teams competing) and sophomore AA boys (12 teams competing).
In individual performances, Boyd Suparat placed 7th out of 142 runners in the 7th and 8th grade boys competition. Ryan Norman and Nick Salo placed 11th and 13th, respectively, with Tom Mork showing at 22nd, Zach Good 41st and Dan Schwartz 85th.
In addition to Hasleietís win, standout individual performances in the 7th and 8th grade girls competition, where 92 runners competed, included: Miranda Charley, 8th; Shayna Bauer, 13th; Maddie Rindahl, 14th; Dani Privratsky, 24th; Elizabeth Walters, 33rd; Janie Morgan, 63rd; Alyssa Selvog, 63rd; Onalee Yousey, 78th; Samantha Zuelke, 79th; Gretchen Ziegler, 81st.
Among the sophomore AA boys, Nick Ramberg placed 3rd out of 125 runners, with JJ Koerber following closely in 4th, Aaron Cedergren 10th, Cody Good 11th, Brandon Nagle 14th, Beg Prager 46th and Ben Meemken 50th.
In the sophomore girls competition, which featured 120 runners, Rachel Souther placed 5th; Amanda Peterson 13th; Tiffany Peterson 16th; Aileen Shanley 24th; Maggie Kriz, 32nd; Kelsey Lloyd, 55th; and Katie Bowen, 95th.
Results of the Oct. 5 meet at Becker were not available as this issue went to press.
