Sampson-OíHern team narrowly misses all-conference honors

Nine North Branch tennis players competed in the Rum River Conference tourney on Sept. 28 and 29 in a quest to earn all-conference honors.

Doubles teams were Chantell Sampson and Kelsey OíHern, Amber Heilig and Sara Fletcher and Michelle Scribner and Katelyn Rollins.
Singles players were Danielle Sonnenfeld, Michelle Zellmer and Carina Lindbeg.

Though none of the players achieved all-conference honors, the team of Sampson and OíHern came close. They had a bye in the first round and went on to beat a team from Princeton 6-4, 6-2. They lost their next match against Moraís first team 3-6 and 4-6.
Sampson-OíHern won their next two rounds, beating Chisago Lakesí first doubles 4-6, 6-4, 8-6 andSt. Michael-Albertville (STMA) 3-6, 6-4, 7-4. They lost to Foleyí number one team in a close match, 6-3, 4-6, 4-7. Had they won the Foley match, they would have played Pine Cityís number one for all-conference.

Fletcher and Heilig lost in their first two rounds to STMA and to Chisago Lakes in a tie-breaker.
Scribner and Rollins played three rounds, losing the first to Foley, winning the second against Chisago Lakes, and dropping the third to Foley.
In singles, Lindberg lost in two rounds to STMA and then to Mora. Zellmer won her first match against Chisago Lakes but lost the next two against Princetonís number one player and Foleyís number three.

Sonnenfeld won her first match against Princeton, but lost the next two tough matches to Foleyís number one and Moraís number one.
The doubles competition was held in North Branch on Sept. 28 and singles in Chisago Lakes on Sept. 29.
