North Branchís volleyball woes continued as the Vikings lost their fifth consecutive contest 0-3 at Duluth East Sept. 13.
Coach Jim VanEerden had hoped that his team would be able to break into the win column after tough losses to Totino Grace and Irondale in the first week of the season and a 1-3 loss to Mora on Sept. 9.
After the Mora loss, VanEerden noted that the same pattern has developed in all the teamís games to date.
ěNorth Branch has lost the first game, won the second, then lost games three and four,î VanEerden said.
Though the Vikings broke that pattern Monday night, it was not in the manner they had hoped, losing in three straight sets.
Individual stats for the Duluth game were not available as this issue went to press.
In the Mora game, sophomore Megan Ranger, seniors Jenny Anderson and Mandy Warzala came up big. Ranger had 16 set assists, 8 kills and 3 serve aces, while Anderson contributed 10 kills, 8 blocks and 2 serve aces. Warzala had 13 digs and 3 kills.
The junior varsity team placed second in the Chisago Lakes tournament on Sept. 11, losing to Cambridge-Isanti in the championship match.
Next up for the varsity is Chisago Lakes at home on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
