RC adopts 2005 preliminary budget

The Rush City council voted to accept a proposed budget for 2005 at the boardís regular Sept. 13 meeting.

The council will seek a $266,260 general levy amount to make up for city expenditures over revenue for the 2005 fiscal year.

The city also will have to make up funds spent on the fire relief association raise which will add about $10,800 to the cityís 2005 expenses.

However, the overall budget shortfall is $40,000 less for 2005 than in 2004 due to a decreased debt service payment in the community development fund of $30,000 and the pay off of a 1990s bond that previously was about $10,000.

The cityís proposed expense budget for 2005 is about $62,000 over what was budgeted in 2004 at $941,630.

Expenses for 2004 are expected to reach $879,500.

The final bill may come in less, however, due to conservative budgeting.

In the 2003 budget cycle, the city planned to have $858,690 in expenses and had only $844,090.

Also at the Sept. 13 meeting, the council approved a planning commission recommendation for Todd Johnston.

Johnston asked the commission for approval on a minor subdivision for property at 170 S. Bremer Ave.

Johnston previously owned property to the north and south of the lot, which was a residence.

He bought the property and the house on the property to make the house into his new offices for Rush City Auto.

The southern shop for Rush City Auto burned earlier this year when a spark from a piece of machinery may have caught a flammable liquid on fire.

The subdivision request would allow Johnston to combine about 25 feet of the newly purchased property with the northern Rush City Auto property and the remainder would be combined with the southerly property to create two lots; one that has 100 feet of frontage and one that has 150 feet.
