John Wesley ìWesî Thomas, 91, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at a local convalescent home in San Marcos, Calif. John was born Feb. 23, 1913 in North Branch.
He lived in San Marcos for 25 years. He was director of revenue accounting for Northwest Airlines for 30 years and then retired from United Airlines in 1978. He served as president of Airlines Clearinghouse Inc. He was a member of the Escondido Kiwanis Club. He served as past president and was on the church council of San Marcos Lutheran Church.
John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carolyn M. (Mellingen) Thomas of San Marcos, who also grew up in North Branch; sons and daughters-in-law Neil L. and Beth Thomas and J. David and Edie Thomas of LaCrosse, Wisc., five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 27, at the San Marcos Lutheran Church, in San Marcos with the Rev. Mark Knutson officiating. Cremation and private inurnment are planned.
