Volleyball drops one at home

Posted: 9/22/04

The volleyball Tigers lost their first contest of the season at home on Sept. 16, dropping a disappointing game to the Braham Bombers 2-3.

The Tigers came out strong, winning the first two games handily at 25-15 and 25-20.

But Braham pulled off a roaring comeback in the next 3 matches, defeating the Tigers 22-25, 24-26 and 11-15.

Coaches Michele Kirby and Eric Telander attributed the loss to mental mistakes.

ěThe girls really came out firing! Unfortunately, we couldnít close the deal. I hope we can use this as a learning experience and keep our heads up for Onamia and Isle next week,î they said.

Individual recognition went to junior Shannon Grimes, who was 11 of 13 serving with 3 aces,10 kills and 3 blocks; senior Brittany Wendorf, who went 12 of 14 serving and had 6 kills; and junior Bobbi Cort, who went 10 of 13 serving with 4 aces and 6 kills.

Results of the Sept. 21 contest against Onamia were unavailable as this issue went to press.

Up next: Sept. 23 at Isle, 7 p.m.
