Music and movement classes for kids inspired by rhythm, nature

Posted: 9/8/04

From Musikgarten

Music, dance, rhythm, stories, movement, patterns and fun characterize the Musikgarten classes that a local woman is introducing to the community this fall.

Jean Dettweiler Minger, of North Branch, will host the Musikgarten program for children newborn through age nine.

Trained over the last three summers in St. Paul and Chicago, Minger is eager to share her joy of music with babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and early elementary children and their parents.

The Musikgarten program was designed using the latest research on child development specifically how music and movement benefit the intellectual, physical and emotional growth of a child from the earliest age through adulthood.

ėI was introduced to Musikgarten in St. Paul where my children attended the Kinderstudio of Musikís classes,î Minger said. ėThey loved the time they spent there and i loved how much musical knowledge they were gaining.î

Minger said she felt so strongly about the curriculum that she decided to become licensed to teach Musikgarten classes herself.

ėChildren everywhere should have the opportunity to attend quality music and movement classes. I wanted to reach out to those children in our community and neighboring communities as well.î

Children attending the Musikgarten classes sing and dance among the gardens and when the weather is pleasant, or in the cozy education center nestled in the pines, as they enjoy music and nature together at Willow Pond Farm.

ėStudents learn so much more than one would expect in a music class. The kids seem to have an innate connection with both music and nature,î Minger said. Musikgarten is open now.
