Rush City: Softball opens with win

Posted: 4/13/05

The Tigers made quick work of the Bird Dogs.

That was the opening day scenario on Apr. 7 as Rush City pounded Carlton-Wrenshall 12-2 in six innings behind excellent ptiching and hitting.

The 10-run rule dictated that the game be called before all 7 innings had been played once a 10-run margin had been reached. Startiing senior pitcher Breann Stottler allowed only 4 hits while striking out 12 batters.

Bobbi Cort, Jamie Prettner and Beth Peters each had 2 hits.

The Tigers took over in the 3rd inning with 8 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 Carlton-Wrenshall errors.

On Apr. 8 the Tigers fell to Barnum 2-4 in a close game that turned on 3 Rush City errors in the 4th inning. The game was scoreless for 3 1/2 innings until the Tigers gave up 2 walks and the errors, allowing the Bombers to score 3 runs. Rush City scored 2 runs in the 7th on hits by Holly Grimes, Jamie Prettner and Jenny Benson.

Stottler had another strong pitching performance, allowing only 1 hit with 5 walks in 5 innings. Bobbi Cort pitched one inning and allowed 1 hit while throwing 2 strike outs.

"We had a tough 4th inning today and unfortunately it cost us the game," said Coach Rick Kosloski. "You can recover from 1 error in an inning but not 2 walks and 3 errors."

Up next: Apr. 14 v. East Central, 4:30 p.m.; Apr. 15 at Ogilvie (rescheduled), 4 p.m.
