TO THE EDITOR:
The Forest Lake MCCL (Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life) Chapter is very proud of the five high school students who participated in the 15th annual local pro-life oratory contest on April 1. They are: Joshua Carlson of Hugo, Jake Loeffler of Chisago City, Jonathon Wallberg of Wyoming, Ashley Westbury of Lindstrom and Karyn Williams of Stacy. Joshua and Jonathon will go on to compete at the state level at the University of St. Thomas on April 17. The student placing first will compete in the National Oratory Contest in Bloomington, Minn. on June 18.
During competition, participants present original speeches on abortion, infanticide or euthanasia that are five to seven minutes in length. Involvement in the contest provides students with an opportunity to reflect on these life issues, and articulate their own personal stance.
All the students did very well, and we are excited about the possibility of having a local student represent Minnesota at the National Right to Life Oratory Contest in June.
