TO THE EDITOR:
I have been waiting patiently for the Rush City School District board to put some rumors to rest, but no luck after reading our local newspaper. Why?
I understand that the Rush City School District Superintendent is on special assignment off school property until Sept. 30, 2005. After that he is leaving only after being here for one year even though he signed a three-year contract.
Now the school board is looking for another superintendent. No, the board isnít really looking, because they already have a person in mind. Why didnít they hire him for the position in the first place?
I called a school board member and asked what was going on, but all I got was a stonewalled answer. Why? I didnít ask for or want to know the tiniest details of the situation, but I wanted to know in general what was going on. I got the feeling that it was none of my business. Excuse me, but as a member of the school district and a taxpayer, I feel all of us have the right to know what is going on and just not a certain few.
I understand not too long ago the high school parking lot was full of vehicles, but when walking into the high school building it felt eerily quiet.
I found out later that there was a closed meeting of the whole school staff in the high school theatre on the situation, but not any other school district taxpaying member was invited except for maybe a lawyer. Why is it okay for the whole school staff getting to know the facts of the situation even if not all of them live in the school district? And why is there a lawyer involved?
It would be nice that the Rush City School Board would put the rumors to rest, buy now they are making them even fly more. Remember! We are entrusting you (the board) in spending our tax dollars wisely and caring for our school district populous in keeping us informed on important matters.
To me, anything that could hurt or help our school district is important and we (school district members) have the right to know.
