North Star Theater Company is proud to present a new play, ìBetween The Northern Pines,î at the North Branch High School Auditorium on Friday April 29.
Between the northern pines at Fiddler Pierreís backwoods camp, Pierre Jacques Pleau is a cook by day for the Northern MN Lumberjack Company and in the evening when his days work is done he takes out his fiddle, Wind Dancer, plays music with his friends and tells stories. In this new springtime comical adventure, Fiddler Pierre gets tangled up in a conflict of interest between the neighborhood gardeners and the famous Minnesota critters that garden underground - GOPHERS!
Annabel, a sweet 14 year old girl (played by Amanda Langevin) who lives on a farm next to the lumberjack camp, plants a crop of taters but then the next day discovers that her neatly spaced rows have been replaced with mounds of dirt and all her taters are gone. Later that same day she hears word that the gophers visited every garden in the neighborhood during the night. Annabel didnít mind sharing her crop once it grew ñ like the sunflowers she was going to plant for the birds, corn for the squirrels and carrots for the rabbits to help them make it through the winter ìBut how can I do that?î she wonders, ìif the gophers donít let my garden grow?!î Running to see her friend Fiddler Pierre, ìbig brotherî to all the kids in the neighborhood, she asks him for advice. Along with his help and that of Mother Nature and the Butterfly Princesses they come up with a peaceful solution so that everyone can live in harmony.
ìYou can replant your crops of taters,î Pierre tells the gardeners, when they stop by later that evening, ìbut first how about we have a celebration of music and dancing around the campfire!î
