Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has set aside this week, Aug. 7-13, to acknowledge the importance of Farmerís Markets across the state.
In his official proclamation, Pawlenty recognized that farmerís markets are important outlets for agricultural producers to increase their farm income.
ěFarmerís markets across the state offer consumers affordable, farm-fresh and healthy products,î said the governor.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, more than 19,000 farmers sell their produce only at farmerís markets. More than 55 farmerís markets operate in Minnesota with an estimated 3,700 locations nationwide.
In Rush City there is a farmerís market every Saturday now until October, 9 a.m - 1 p.m. at 4th St. and Dana (the old bank drive-through lot) and in North Branch, people can purchase produce from a farmerís market at Petersonís Mill parking lot on Saturday mornings.
