SCRMC offers new quit smoking program

Posted: 8/10/05

The U.S. Surgeon General has stated, ìStopping smoking represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives.î

No matter what your age or how long youíve smoked or chewed, quitting will help you live longer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently estimated that adult male smokers lost an average of 13.2 years of life and female smokers lost 14.5 years of life because of smoking. To have the best chance of quitting successfully, however, you need to know what youíre up against, what your options are, and where to go for help.

Smokers who want to quit can contact St. Croix Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) for information about this new smoking cessation program. Call Education Services at (715) 483-2402 or, for an appointment, (715) 483-0472 or 1-800-828-3627, ext. 2472.

Wanda Brown, an Advanced Practice R.N., (APRN), counsels clients to help them create their own customized plan to quit smoking.
She helps each individual choose a method to quit and shows them how to stay smoke-free once theyíve stopped. Many health insurance policies now cover this type of smoking cessation program, and SCRMC staff will contact clientsí insurance companies for authorization if coverage is available.
