TO THE EDITOR:

Monday evening I attended my first city council meeting. I couldnít believe what I was hearing. If it had been the Dr. Phil show he would have been shouting, ìAre you people out of your mind?î You are elected officials and yet you have closed minds about what is best for the people of our fair city. All this business of having green space around a nursing home being the only reason that you are voting against it is really unbelievable. And to have a council member say she took care of her parents at home was really out of place.

Donít you think we would all like to do that? However that is really not the issue. We donít all have the houses without stairways, wide bathroom doors and strong backs to lift our loved ones in and out of bed. What about those that need to go to work every day? Who is home with the parent who needs care then? Are you also aware that North Branch has lawyers all over the state talking about how hard it is to get anything done here and working with the city council is next to impossible. Wake up! You are elected to see to our needs, not to tell us what you think is best. Believe me we need a nursing home here. You know that the county is ready to close it down if something isnít done, but does the rest of the county know that?
