Wild River State Park features guest herbalist

Herbalist Teresa Wolfe from the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway will be the special guest at Wild River State Park this Saturday from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the visitor center. Learn herbal remedies used by early European immigrants to the area, find out how some of the plants we know of as ìweeds ìwere brought here, and make your own sample of an herbal salve.

Also at the park this weekend:
Saturday, Aug. 6, 11 a.m.: Butterflies in native prairies and in your back yard. A lavishly-illustrated talk on the beauty, variety and ìsecret tricksî of colorful and sometimes elusive butterflies in the park. Learn how you can attract some of these in your own back yard.

Sunday, 11 a.m.: Slithery snakes. Learn about the snakes found in the park , see a live example and touch a representative of this fascinating species.

Mark your calendars for ìPrairie Skies and Perseid Meteorsî on Aug. 12 and 13 at 9 p.m. with guest astronomer Steve Tonsfeldt.
