Sadness at Christmas time

TO THE EDITOR:

On Monday evening, Dec. 6, around 6 p.m., our neighbor noticed a truck parked out on our quiet gravel road with its lights off. He went out to investigate and saw that the truck had backed into our driveway - still with the lights off. It was then that he noticed whatİwas going on.İİ

Whoever was in the truck, and their accomplice, had the audacity to chop down our beautiful blue spruce tree in the decorative boulder garden at the end of our driveway.İOur dearİneighbor got in hisİcar to follow theseİthieves, as they sped away withİourİtree hanging over the back end of the truck (causing it to beİunable to read the license plate.)İİ

They pulled over a ways down the road, and as our neighbor confrontedİthem, a physical assaultİtook place on our neighbor. Unfortunately, the thieves got away - but hopefully not for long. The descriptive truck was a late 70s early 80s whiteİChevrolet pick-up with a loud muffler, and the two men were in theirİlate teens -İearly twenties.

This whole situation has reallyİsaddened my heart. Not only for the trespassing and theft surroundingİChristmas - what? Put an angel on the top of the stolen tree and celebrate Jesusí birth?İİBut then to be befriended by the greatest neighbor, and for him to have his life risked on account of our tree. Itís crazy, and very sad. If anyone has any information of who the tree thieves and bullies are, we would be very appreciative to know.

Thank you -
