Jake Bosman (pictured) turned in a blistering offensive game Friday night, pouring in 31 points to lead the Rush City Tigers to a 79-55 conference romp over Aitkin.
The win gives the Tigers a 1-1 record as they depart for the annual St. Johnís Holiday Tourney in Collegeville Dec. 15-17.
Earlier in the week the Tigers opened the season with a close 61-66 loss to Barnum at home. The Tigers led for most of the game, but Barnum overtook them in the final six minutes. Dreissig attributed the loss to lack of discipline on defense and missed scoring opportunities.
Jerred Nelson led the Tigersí scoring attack with 21 points, followed by Bosmanís 17.
In the game against Aitkin, Bosman made 8 of 10 two-pointers and 2 of 3 three-pointers from the field. He also sank 9 of 10 free throws.
Rush City was in charge throughout the game, and Coach Gary Dreissig was able to play everyone on the 15-man roster. Ten players scored.
Tigers travel to St. Johnís tourney next
Other schools participating in the St. Johnís tourney are Swanville, St. Johnís Prep, Upsala, Holdingford, Maple Lake, Onamia and Royalton.
The Tigers open with a game against St. Johnís Prep Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. Round two will feature the Tigers against either the winner or the loser of the Onamia-Upsala game.
ìWe love having Rush City participate. Coach Dreissig is an excellent coach and he runs a classy program. Theyíve been successful too ñ winning the championship on a couple of different occasions ñ in fact they beat St. Johnís Prep in the championship game just a few years ago,î said St. Johnís coach Bryan Backes.
The Tigersí final game before the break will be a Dec. 20 home contest against Pine City.
