Pray that the bill is passed

TO THE EDITOR:

Legislation by U.S. Sen. Sam Brownlack and U.S. Rep. Chris Smith has been introduced into both houses of Congress. The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act would require abortionists to fully inform mothers who are considering an abortion on an unborn child who has reached 20 weeks of development, regarding the pain this child will most likely feel.

Expert witnesses included doctor Jean A. Wright, MBA professor and chair of pediatric at the Mercer School of Medicine and executive director of Childrenís Hospital, testified that the development of pain receptors begins at the 6th week of life. By 20 weeks and ëperhaps even earlierí all the essential components exist to transmit pain from the skin to the spinal cord and then to the brain of this human child.

Today with the survival of 23- and 24-week-old infants, we no longer have to speculate whether these unborn children feel pain. These life-saving doctors understand it, they try to avoid it and treat pain in these little children.

During the Christmas season, a season of new birth, let us all pray that these bills pass Congress and become the law of these United States, and also for these pregnant mothers, no matter what these women are being told this child inside of them is, they come to realize this is a little human being.

Thank you for your prayers and have a wonder filled Christmas.
