Leone Erickson, age 82, passed away on Dec. 13, 2005 at Fergus Falls, Minn.
Fern Harriet Leone Palmquist was born March 21, 1923, in North Branch, Minn., the eldest child of Roy Leonard and Gladys (Hyland) Palmquist. She lived with her family on their farm near Palmdale until 1930 when her father died at a young age. Her family moved to North Branch where she was raised; she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, and graduated from North Branch High School in 1941. Upon graduation she moved to Minneapolis where she was employed, and eventually entered the Bethesda School of Nursing program in St. Paul where she became a cadet nurse.
On March 31, 1946 she married Warren V. Erickson of Cambridge and resided in Cambridge where she became a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Leone and Warren had seven children, with the youngest, Beverly Annette, dying in infancy.
During her lifetime, Leone was employed in the Cambridge area as a court bailiff, at Memorial Hospital, and later in life at the Regional Treatment Center.She was a kind person who greatly enjoyed the people she met and worked with. Leone found pleasure in being with family and friends, and provided them with wonderful meals, baked treats, and merry laughter. When dropping in on her unannounced she would apologize, saying, ìI should have something for you to eat!î
Upon retirement she enjoyed tending her flowers, crochet, cross-stitch, and keeping up with the events in her grandchildrenís lives.
In June of 2005 she entered the Broen Memorial Nursing Home in Fergus Falls. Prior to her move to Fergus Falls, she resided at RiverHills in Cambridge for three years where she had the blessings of attentive care and the opportunity to socialize with new and old friends.
She is survived by her children, Patricia, (George) Brelig of Fort Collins, Colo.; Barbara (Bruce) Hysing of Dalbo; David (Dianna) Erickson of Blaine; Jane (Mark) Moskowitz of Ashland, Ore.; Judy (Lowell) Carpenter of Fergus Falls; Dr. Robert (Gwen) Erickson of Duluth; and by 14 loving and devoted grandchildren ñ Aaron Samuelson; Nathan, Jacob and Jonathan Brelig; Melissa and Sonya Hysing; Adam and Sara Erickson; Ethan and Maya Moskowitz; Glen and Carl Carpenter; and Blake and Connor Erickson. She is also survived by her sister Floy Martinson of Forest Lake; brother Lowell Palmquist and wife Mona of Littleton, Colo.; and sister-in-law Arlene Palmquist, of St. Louis Park.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant brother, Warren Erickson, sister Gloria Palmquist, brother Leroy Palmquist, and infant daughter
Beverly Annette.
Funeral service was held 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Erling Tungseth officiating. Visitation was held at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Eunice Hupfer, accompanied by Mary Kay OíNeill provided the special music. Active pallbearers were Aaron Samuelson, Nathan Brelig, Adam Erickson, Jacob Brelig, Bruce Hysing and Lowell Carpenter. Honorary pall-bearers were John Brelig, Glen Carpenter, Carl Carpenter, Blake Erickson, Ethan Moskowitz, Connor Erickson, Melissa Hysing, Sonya Hysing, Sara Erickson, and Maya Moskowitz. Interment was in the Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge.
