Irene Hasselquist of Almelund, Minn., age 89, passed away on Nov. 18, 2005. Irene had been a resident of Parmly Residence, Chisago City, Minn. for the past several years.

Irene was born Aug. 1, 1916, to John and Esther (Reed) Hasselquist at the family home in Amador Township.

Irene was baptized as an infant at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Almelund, Minn. Irene attended Sunday School at Immanuel and was confirmed April 26, 1931.

That same year on July 7, 1931, Irene was involved in a very severe auto accident which prevented her from going to school for one year. Irene graduated from North Branch High School in 1936.

Irene took teacher trainingÝclasses at Hinckley, St. Cloud, and Duluth. She taught school for many years; all of her teaching was done in North Branch area schools. The majority of her years, she taught at Almelund, but also at Kost and Palmdale, and concluded her 45 years of teaching in North Branch. Ý

Irene was very active in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Almelund. Irene was superintendent of Sunday School for 50 years. Very special to Irene were the Christmas programs the Sunday School used to give every year. Irene truly loved children.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, LeRoy Hasselquist. Irene is survived by her brother, Philip (Eyleen) of Waseca and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Almelund with Rev. Brian Bergin officiating.
Memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
