Rally falls short in Tiger girlsí opener

Turnovers, missed opportunities at the free throw line and poor rebounding meant defeat as the Rush City Tigers girlsí basketball team dropped their season opener 45-39 at Aitkin on Dec. 2.

The Tigers committed 25 turnovers and fell behind by 19 points before staging a rally that brought them to within 2 points.

ěIt is nearly impossible to compete when you turn the ball over 25 times. Add to that giving up 26 offensive rebounds and shooting 7 for 22 from the free throw line and you can guess the result,î said Coach Jeremy Albright. ěThese things need to and will improve.î

Seniors Bobbi Cort and Becky Kemen led the way for the Tigers. Cort had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Kemen added eight points, six rebounds and six steals. Junior Amber Hoffman scored seven points and contributed four assists.

The Tigersí home opener is this Thursday, Dec. 8 against Great River Conference rival Hinckley-Finlayson. Next Tuesday the Tigers continue their conference schedule with a game at Onamia.
