Vikings drop opener to Pine City/Rush City

The Vikings opened on the road against Pine City/Rush City on Dec. 2. After one period of play, PC/RC led 1-0 after delivering 21 shots to the Vikingsí 3.

During the second period, PC/RC had a 2 to 1 shot ratio, increasing the shot advantage 30 to 8 and putting away three additional goals.

North Branch got on the board in the third period due to the individual effort of junior wing Alex Nelson, who drove to the net on a partial breakaway and slid in a goal to cut the Dragon lead to 4-1. Nelson was assisted by Jake Cogger and Pat Hughes. But the Dragons kept on the heat, pumping in three more goals in third to close out the game.

The Vikings were outshot 45-17.

The Vikings will be playing a full 25-game varsity schedule this season after playing a number of partial varsity schedule seasons for the past couple of years.

Entering the season, the Vikings will carry 23 players on the squad, led by senior captain Nate Obitz. He, along with alternate captain Pat Hughes and senior netminder Chris Lindberg, have high expectations for this season.
