The Rush City wrestling team headed into sectional competition this week with a strong showing at the Great River Conference tourney under their belts.

The Tigers hosted the GRC tourney Feb. 4 and placed third behind Aitkin and Mille Lacs. They hosted a sectional meet against Braham on Feb. 8; results were not available as this issue went to press. A win against Braham would advance the Tigers to the next round at Pierz on Feb. 11.

In the conference tourney Matt Wuorinen went undefeated at 130 pounds to win the championship. Adam Morris, Adam Best and Mackenzie Johnston each were runner-up in their class.
Coach Tim Bowland said he was pleased with how his team performed.

ìEveryone left what they had out on the mat and that is all you can ask for as a coach.
Placing third behind those two other teams isnít bad and now we know what we have to
do to become champions,î Bowland said.

He was particularly pleased that James Fleming and Adam Best avenged earlier losses. Fleming defeated Kyle Prickett from Mille Lacs and Best pinned Jon Odle, who is also from Mille Lacs.
