DuWayne D. Dahl

DuWayne D. Dahl was born to William and Hazel (Langenbau) Dahl on Feb. 11, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Growing up, DuWayne lived in various parts of the United States, until moving to the Hinckley area in 1957.
In 1958, at the age of 15, he met Mary Jane Brennan. They were married on April 9, 1965. They were blessed with one son and two daughters. They moved to the Rush City area in 1970. Over the years, DuWayne worked for several trucking companies and at one time was an owner/operator.

In 1961, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp. He served his country for four years spending some of this time in Vietnam, Okinawa and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in March 1966 at the rank of Corporal. He joined the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post # 6692 of Rush City in the 1970ís and became a lifetime member in 1993.

DuWayne loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and they loved being with their ìPapa.î His family was very important to him, which included his extended family of nieces and nephews who considered him as more than just an uncle.

DuWayne died Feb. 5, 2005, at the age of 60, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He will also be missed by his faithful canine companions, Sugar and Falline, who were always at his side.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; son, DuWayne (Brenda) Dahl of Rush City; daughters, Stephanie (Dave Wahlroos) Suloff of North Branch and Leandra (Jim) Guptill of Rush City; five grandchildren: Danielle and Jocelyn Dahl, Robby Suloff, Brandon and Jamie Guptill; brother: Donald (Ramona) Dahl of Columbia Heights; sister, Monica (Chet) Gallagher of Embarrass; aunt: Gussie Leightnam of Coon Rapids; brothers-in-law: James (Barb) Brennan of Eden Prairie; Dennis (Gail) Brennan of Hinckley; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; DuWayne was preceded in death by his parents William and Hazel Dahl, a loving sister Darlene Becvar and her husband Sonny, his brother David Dahl, father-in-law and mother in law: J. D. and Susan Brennan and his sister-in-law Julie Brennan.

Father Xavier Thelakkatt officiated at funeral services Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. Honorary casket bearers included Steve Mastro, Dennis and Jim Brennan. Active casket bearers included Dan and Rick Behrendt, Tim and Matt Phillips, Lowell Hauff and Jarrod Brennan with the interment at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Rush City. Military honors were provided by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service of Rush City ìOlson Chapel.î
