Judgement cannot be trusted

To the editor:

An example of the delusional thinking that characterizes Chisago County Board Chair Robert V. Gustafson is his belief that he is a St. Paul Police officer as advertised in his campaign advertisements.
A three judge panel found Gustafsonís false claim to be ìdeliberate and unapologeticî even after Gustafson admitted that he was only a rent-a-cop in 1974.

His lies extend beyond himself to include others, even the President of the United States of America. It turns out that Gustafson was not really invited to Washington to meet with White House Staff as he falsely claimed during the last election, a statement that the judges described as ìill-advised puffery.î

Gustafsonís inability to tell the truth reached comical proportions during the hearing when he claimed no knowledge of a libeling flyer ñ purportedly distributed by his own nephew and containing Gustafsonís own mailing address on its disclaimer.

While the judges found clear and convincing evidence of Gustafsonís reckless disregard of the truth, taxpayers have no ability to levy fines and penalties against the same man disseminating similar lies about the nursing home debacle and land give-away in North Branch nor over the continuing garbage dump scandal in Mora which he also curiously promotes.

The judgement of a man found by such evidence to be ìnegligent and ill-considered,î ìfalsely inflated,î ìdeliberate and unapologeticî ñ meaning bold in his lying ñ and an ìill-advised pufferyî in his own self service cannot be trusted when multi-million dollar contracts are being inked to soak taxpayers in propping up proven boondoggles.
