Parents want to keep active role

To the editor:

North Branch School District parents, did you know that you have lost the opportunity to request a teacher for your child? Thatís right! Next year our children will be randomly placed into a classroom or what they will call a ìneighborhood.î Once in a ìneighborhoodî our children will remain with the neighborhood kids throughout their elementary years. This will eliminate opportunities to form friendships with students across the grade level at school.

I believe this is wrong! As parents, we know what is best for our children and their education. Requesting provided input from a parent to the type of teaching style and personality that best matches our child. It also allowed siblings to experience the same teacher and bond whole families to the school through the ongoing relationships that were formed.

The school district wants parent involvement and for us to take pride in our school system. They also want our support when it comes time for voting, yet they want to take requests away. I urge you to get involved, email, write letters or call our superintendent, principals and board members and let them know we as parents want to keep that active role in helping our childrenís education grow.
