Joel Dresel and Daniel Elenbaas of SEH, an engineering consulting firm, were on hand Monday night to present their airport taxiway plans and specs to the Rush City council.
Elenbaas said that per the recommendation of the airport commission he added to the plans for the parallel taxiway a set of ìdouble blueî lights, which are activated by a pilot as a plane is landing.
Dresel said that the lights are flashing strobes.
ìWe were hesitant to put them south on the runway because of adjacent neighbors,î he said. ìThe FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is pushing us to put them in to reduce confusion as to where the end of the runway is.î
He said the lights are designed to shine upward, so they will not be shining into peopleís homes.
Elenbaas said that he anticipates that the project will get started by May. Dresel added that SEH will have bids in-hand by May 30.
The council approved the plans.
The council also looked at an update on the design for the community center in the new senior housing project.
Councilman Mick Louzek wondered if the food shelf needed more space than the plans allotted, but was happy that there wasnít any other storage.
ìWe donít want it,î he said. ìAnything that comes in a day leaves in a day.î
Examining the plans, councilman David Bengtson recommended a counter and kitchen sink in the activity room.
Also at the meeting, deputy clerk Amy Mell, filling in for city administrator Daniel Hoffman, showed the council a letter from Preferred Leasing and Investments of Plymouth requesting a six-month extension of its preliminary plat and re-zoning for Brookside Estates.
This will allow the company to finish its plans and present them to the planning commission and the council.
ìThe planning commission recommended that we approve the extension,î Mell said.
The council approved it.
