If the united effort of four area Chamber of Commerce organizations is successful, there should be more visitors to Chisago County in the coming years. And that could mean more money in the business coffers and that could mean a happier business climate.
Chisago County already attracts a large group of tourists every year, in fact, it is one of the hottest destinations for people taking a one-day trip.
But the area Chamber of Commerce organizations would like to bring even more people here to enjoy themselves and bring tourism revenue to county businesses.
The four Chamber organizations - Chisago Lakes, North Branch, Rush City and Taylors Falls - have joined in an ambitious project.
They are producing a countywide marketing magazine that will highlight the concept of the ìup north experience, just a short drive away.î
Unlike many who sit before the county commissioners on board day, the group of four women representing these Chambers did not want anything from the county last week.
They were there to explain how the 32-page marketing magazine would help increase tourism which in turn should help improve the economy of the county.
The magazine, which will be distributed in the Twin Cities, will highlight sports, parks, recreational opportunities, shopping, restaurants, lodging, nature and wildlife activities and art and cultural experiences throughout the county.
The magazine will feature a county map, a service directory and a calendar of the many events held throughout the county all year long.
It is expected that 30,000 copies will be distributed.
The Chisago County Economic Development Authority is helping to fund the distribution costs as a benefit to the businesses throughout the county.
A limited number of ad spaces also - all four color, are also helping to pay for the product.
The magazine will be ready for spring distribution.
ìThis product demonstrates the value businesses place on tourism,î said North Branch Chamber director Kathy Lindo.
ìWe really feel tourism has a tremendous impact on our communities,î said Sherry Stirling, who was filling in for Rush City Chamber director Melanie Hedberg who was unable to attend the county board meeting.
Lindo said after the meeting that some advertising space may still be available and that businesses should contact her at (651) 674-4077, if interested. Or you can call you local Chamber office.
