An enthusiastic roar came from the students at C.E. Jacobson Elementary in Rush City Monday afternoon as they cheered on their favorite teams in mock dog sled races. The school kicked off its ìI Love to Readî month activities with the zany competition from grade 1 to grade 6.
Using the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race as their theme, the students will be tracking the 1,049-mile race as they read books this month. They will track the race on the school wall as they accumulate minutes read; 100 minutes will equal a mile.
The month-long reading program will culminate with a special program March 1 and Principal Vern Koepp will be required to keep a promise to rollerblade all day if the students achieve their reading goals.
