Vikings snag two more wins, inch up in RRC standings

By Cynthia Scott

The North Branch Vikings (11-2) took over sole possession of second place last week with wins over cellar dweller Mora 45-25 and rival Chisago Lakes 51-34.

The Vikings have won six straight games dating back to Jan. 7, when they lost 59-51 at the hands of the conference-leading St. Michael Albertville Knights (11-1). They next face the Knights at home on Feb. 11.
The Vikings stormed to a 31-8 halftime lead against the hapless Mustangs, who have yet to win a game this season against a conference opponent. Tiffany Good led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Jenny Anderson with 12. Anderson also had 9 rebounds.

The Chisago Lakes game, played at Chisago Lakes, was an intense contest played in a tournament atmosphere.

ìItís one of those games you donít have to give a speech to get the girls ready to play,î said Coach Dan Schindler.
The Vikings led the entire way, holding a 12-7 first quarter advantage and maintaining at 25-17 at halftime. Schindler praised the play of freshman Kristen Robatcek, who entered the game in the second quarter.

ìShe is a player that can make things happen and she got a couple of steals and got our break going,î Schindler said.

In addition to the steals, Robatcek scored four points.
The second half saw sophomore Gabrielle Olson take over with her scoring to put the game away. She totalled 18 points on the night.

ìGab is a great player and she can do it all. In the first half we had her running our offense from the point, and in the second half she posted up and scored to put the game away. Whatever we need on a given night Gab can do,î Schindler said.

Jenny Anderson pulled down 11 rebounds while scoring 8 points.
Up next: Feb. 3 at Pine City, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 8 v. Fridley, 7:30 p.m.
