This past Sunday, my wife Bambi, daughter Becki and I returned from a trip to bring more school supplies to the Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Many of you may recall the backpack drive Becki organized last summer where so many people from our area donated backpacks, school supplies and money to the children of the Genesis One Christian School.

I have to report that all these donations are going to very great use. It was amazing to look around and see that every student had a backpack full of paper, pencils and other school supplies.
So thank you to the many families who donated supplies along with the notes to the children.

The reason for this trip was to bring more supplies and money gathered by North Branch High School senior Kelly Thompson.
Kelly did this for her Girl Scout Gold Award project and had man donations, which were very timely for the teachers to use in their classes.

A few of the teachers had just made a ìwish listí but money at the school was just too tight.

They were so grateful when they saw that many of the items Kelly had collected were on that list. And they are all very excited to see it further enhance the childrenís education, finally giving them the learning experience they deserve. Once again itís amazing to see our community reaching out to a community 1,200 miles away.
For those not familiar with the projects, Mendenhall Ministries serves low-income residents to Simpson County, Miss., and surrounding areas.

Mendenhall is a town separated by racism and the ministry serves as a source of reconciliation.

Some of the services offered are a health clinic with a doctor, legal counseling, Genesis One Christian School and a farm that supplies the school and needy neighbors with food.
