The Rush City council approved the appointments and designations of a variety of posts at its regular meeting Monday night.
The makeup of the city council did not change. City administrator Daniel Hoffman swore in mayor Mike Skalsky and councilmen Bill Schneider and Mick Louzek, who all were re-elected in November. Louzek will remain the acting mayor.
Jerry Robbins and Clarence McDonald were both appointed to 3-year terms on the airport advisory board.
Mitch Haugrud, Ken Zupon and councilman Bill Schneider were appointed to the planning commission, which is a 5-year term. Zupon, who lives outside the city limits, was grandfathered into the post. Hoffman said that Zupon, a business owner in Rush City, will serve until there is interest in the position.
Also at the meeting, the council approved amendments to the bylaws of the Rush City fire department made by the public safety committee.
Skalsky said that the committee looked at the by-laws of other fire departments, including North Branch, and saw ģsomething that might fit our needs well.ī
One change they made was to the amount of regular meetings a member of the fire department could miss in a 12-month period before that person would be recommended for termination.
The old by-laws allowed for five unexcused absences from scheduled regular meetings, whereas the new incarnation allows for only two absences.
Another change requires firefighters to complete a physical every three years by July 1 of the year which the physical is scheduled.
Failure to do so would result in termination from the department.
One last change made was to a section in the training requirements. The previous version lacked any specific cost discussions, whereas the amended version lays out requirements for meal allowances and lodging expenses for members to attend conferences.
In other news, the council:
ļApproved Rush City Fire Department billing procedures. The fire department bills for a variety of calls, including car accidents, car or vehicle fires, cleanup of methamphetamine labs and disposable items used to extinguish fires (such as foam).
ļApproved Milcon Construction of North Branch as construction management for the community center to be attached to the forthcoming senior apartments.
ļApproved a developerķs agreement for Rush Creek Bluff Townhomes.
