North Branch grapplers enjoyed a titanic victory Jan. 8 when they came out on top in the nine-team Tartan tourney at Tartan High School in Oakdale.
Dubbed the 2005 Clash of the Titans tournament, the competition featured teams from North Branch, Rosemount, Tartan, Amery, Wisc., St. Cloud Tech, Roseville, Minneapolis Roosevelt, Winona and Rogers.
The Vikings scored 209.5 points on a day when each and every competitor placed.
Three wrestlers were champions in their weights: Ryan Decorsey at 145, Cody Gallmeier at 152 and Joe Lofboom at 160.
ìIt was a very fun day in Tartan. The guys went extremely hard and deserve the trophy. In a tourney like this, you need contributions from everyone and we got it. It is very difficult to name any one individual who stood out, because all of them gave maximum effort all day long,î said Coach Tony Aho.

On Jan. 6 North Branch defeated Princeton 57-21. The team observed Parentsí Night, and 7th and 8th grade wrestlers from the middle school competed in an exhibition contest.
