From staff reports
Bill Burton, director of transportation for the North Branch Area School District, was involved in a serious injury car crash Thursday afternoon (Jan. 13) at the intersection of Highway 95 and Harder Parkway, according to reports from the Minnesota State Patrol and the school district.
Burton, 53, of North Branch, was driving his Pontiac Grand AM eastbound on highway 95, when he went onto an icy shoulder, lost control of his vehicle and struck a westbound Ford truck head-on, according to the state patrol report.
Burton, who the report said was not wearing his seat belt, suffered critical injury to his head and trauma to his chest.
The driver of the truck, Corbett Joseph Charpentier, 28, of Rush City, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Burton is out of intensive care and is currently in the trauma unit at Regionís Hospital in St. Paul, said Sara Thompson, school district community relations coordinator.
ìWe are hoping to have him back before the end of the school year,î she said.
District administration is working on a plan for someone to fill in for Burton, she said.
