North Branch Dental will provide free dental care to less fortunate children on Saturday, Feb. 5. The dental office is located at 6460 Main Street in downtown North Branch. People interested in scheduling an appointment for a child may call the dental office at (651) 674-7096.
Dr. Richard Nyman and Dr. Howard Taylor and their staff are joining thousands of dental volunteers across the state that are committed to providing access to quality dental care for all children. The two-day program, call ìGive Kids a Smile,î is coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association. Now in its third year, Give Kids a Smile has provided free dental care to more than 10,000 children.
ìAccess to oral health is a major problem and the Minnesota Dental Association is committed to making sure that every child has access to quality care,î said Dr. Nyman. ìGive Kids a Smile is just one example of how deeply committed dentists are to giving every child the care they deserve. But more must also be done through public policy to meet the needs of Minnesotaís poorest children.î
Patients seeking appointments should be under the age of 18 and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. North Branch is providing examinations, x-rays, fluoride treatments, and cleaning for children ages 2-18.
The Minnesota Dental Association has made access to dental care its top priority. Currently, the government will pay less than half of the average cost of what private patients pay for the same care. ìLawmakers need to know that paying less than 50 cents on the dollar to treat public assistance patients is not saving money.î said Dr. Pat Foy, president of the Minnesota Dental Association. The MDA is urging Minnesota lawmakers to fix the funding and administrative complexities of state public assistance programs for dental care.
