Boys rout Big Lake, Zimmerman

The North Branch Vikings improved to 5-7 with back-to-back victories for the first time this season, defeating Zimmerman 77-32 and Big Lake 66-43 last week.

The outcome of the Zimmerman game was never in doubt, with the Vikings jumping to a 27-10 lead at the end of the first quarter on the strength of 10 points by Matt Warren.

The lopsided victory gave Coach Bill Baumann the opportunity to play everyone on the roster.

ìFrom early on in the second quarter we had an opportunity to work on some things. We got a lot of playing time for everyone on the roster and everyone performed very well,î Baumann said.

Warren led all scorers with 19 points. He also grabbed 6 rebounds. Tony Beaver scored 14 with 3 rebounds and Greg Moriarty scored 11 points and had 7 assists.

The Vikings also controlled the Big Lake game from start to finish, despite a 6-0 run by the Hornets at the end of the first quarter. ìWe had to come out in the second quarter and take back the momentum,î Baumann said.
Nick Perrin led all scorers with 20 points. Beaver scored 11 and had 4 assists.
